The term "standing" serves to mark a distinction from the Sledge Ice Hockey, where the players use both hands for propulsion, maneuvering and shooting, while skating in sitting position on specially designed sleds. The sport is governed by the International Standing Amputee Ice Hockey federation (ISIHF). A sport specific classification has been developed to equalize teams. capabilities and assure safe and fare game.
