When people with leg or arm amputations or with similar disabilities play Standing Amputee Ice Hockey,
they skate in a regular upright position and use standard prostheses and standard ice hockey equipment.
The term "standing" marks the sport's distinction from Sledge Ice Hockey, where players skate in a sitting
position on specially designed sleds, using both of their hands to propel themselves, maneuver and shoot.
Standing hockey is governed by the International Standing Amputee Ice Hockey federation (ISIHF), which has
developed a sport specific classification to equalize teams and ensure a safe and fair game. On March 10th,
2010, the IPC Governing Board granted the ISIHF "IPC recognized International Federation" status.
